Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County’s (HFHNCC) program called, “A Brush With Kindness,” is a small repairs program that assists low-income homeowners who are not able to afford the critical repairs on their homes. The homeowners receiving this assistance must apply for the program which requires that they have a need for the repairs, pay two installments of $250, and have a willingness to partner with HFHNCC.
HFHNCC recently completed critical repairs for six homeowners in the City of Newark that met the requirements for this program. Some of the repairs that were done included new roofing, HVAC installations, new windows and doors, drywall, painting, new steps, plumbing, and landscaping. The range for the costs of these projects was anywhere between $9,000 – $20,000 per home. All projects were completed by August 22, 2017.
We would like to thank the funders that made this project possible – Delaware State Housing Authority, City of Newark CDBG, New Ark United Church, our volunteers, and homeowners.
The ‘A Brush with Kindness’ program is now accepting applications on the Eastside of Wilmington for phase II of critical repair work. Phase I on the Eastside was completed in the fall of 2016, with 8 homeowners receiving help.
